All March of Dimes Signature Chefs events will be held virtually this year. While we may not be together in person, we rely on your continued support to provide innovative programs and services for moms, moms-to-be and babies who may be at a greater risk of becoming sick and not receiving proper or equitable care.

The chefs, volunteers and guests who make up our Signature Chefs Events community are coming together in new, innovative ways to suport moms and babies this year.

We are following state mandated guidelines in response to COVID-19 and will not have an in-person event this year. So, we are preparing an exciting, new Virtual Gala for your 2020 March of Dimes Signature Chefs Auction experience!

We need your help now more than ever. Your support funds:

  • COVID-19 interventions and support for moms and babies
  • Programs that promote health equity for moms and babies and directly combat racial disparities in maternal and child health
  • Free virtual NICU support program for families
  • Virtual prenatal programs for moms-to-be
  • Educational programs, including live Facebook panel discussions, to get info into the hands of moms and families
  • Necessary supplies for expectant mothers including blood pressure cuffs and masks and so much more!

EVENT DETAILS

Join us for our 26th annual gathering of the area's finest culinary talent in support of the March of Dimes on Thursday, September 19, 2019, at the Radisson Plaza Hotel. From your arrival at the event you will enjoy the chance to taste from the chefs' creations for tasting and networking experience before taking your seats for the Live Auction and Fund the Mission. Bid on unique packages and raise your paddle and give generously to save babies.

Support local families impacted by the March of Dimes mission by donating to help sponsor a special holiday dinner party, and small gift to each family.

NICU Family Cupcake Deliveries

Support local families impacted by the March of Dimes mission by sponsoring a twice-monthly cupcake delivery to families with a baby in the NICU.

MEET THE SZATKOWSKI FAMILY

Each year we highlight one famlies story who has been touch by the Mission of the March of Dimes. This year we are pleased to tell the Szatkowski family's story: 

ISLA'S STORY
Isla was born at 33 weeks, weighing just 4 pounds. She spent 4 weeks in the NICU, and the circumstances around her premature birth are unique. Isla came into the world vi a C-Section after the discovery of her mother's rare disease, Cauda Equina Syndrome, which required emergency surgery to treat. Because her birth was an emergency, Isla and her mother were unable to receive medication that would help with the development of her lungs. Isla was born small and required a 30 day NICU stay while her lungs and little body strengthened.

TARA'S STORY
Tara had a difficult pregnancy. She suffered from Hyperemesis that hospitalized her 10 times in her first trimester. During the second trimester she was diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes and had to administer her own insulin shots. At 33 weeks, Tara experienced severe back pain, paralysis of her left leg and lost all bladder and bowel function. An MRI diagnosed her with Cauda Equina Syndrome (CES), a neurological disorder where a disk cuts into the spinal cord. CES is a rare condition- and extremely rare in pregnancy. She had emergency surgery of a C-Section to deliver her baby, then immediately flipped over for back surgery. She was able to see her daughter's birth and first cries only after the surgery, via video taken by nurses in the operating room. She then spent the next week in the hospital recovering from surgery while the baby was in the NICU. Tara then suffered from life-threatening complications: a DVT blood clot and 6 Pulmonary Embolisms. She now suffers from permanent numbness and pain, and doctors are monitoring her closely as it is not known how CES will impact her second (current) pregnancy and baby.

March of Dimes research, breakthroughs and medical education ensured that Tara and Isla received the most advanced care possible were both able to survive their complications. March of Dimes touched the Szatkowski family in 8 different ways throughout their story. The family now shares their story as it continues to unfold and advocates for March of Dimes as we lead the fight for the health of all moms and babies.

Hosting a Table

Thank you for being the leader at your table during this year’s 26th Annual Signature Chefs Auction of Kalamazoo! Your role is important to the success of the event. As a table host, you will be inviting and providing night-of information to your guests. You’ll also be a champion for the work we do on behalf of moms and babies.

March of Dimes leads the fight for the health of all moms and babies. We support research, lead programs and provide education and advocacy so that every baby can have the best possible start. Building on a successful 80-year legacy of impact and innovation, we empower every mom and every family. 

We need your help to ensure that our mission is heard. The best way to do this is to lead the momentum at your table during Fund the Mission, the mission-driven moment at our event. Fund the Mission is a special appeal that directly impacts the work we do. Money raised during this portion of the evening funds research, programs and advocacy.
