Ambassador Family
Meet the Davis Family! After being at Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida for 137 consecutive days, Avery and Emersyn finally went home! These fraternal twins were born three days apart at 22 weeks. PLUS, they are the first micro preemie twins to be discharged from Golisano!
The mom, Taylor, gave birth to Avery on October 29, 2021, after being rushed to the emergency room. The doctors were not sure Avery would make it, but she was born naturally and was immediately transferred to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). Taylor’s cervix closed afterward, and she was not able to give birth to Emersyn.
Three days later, on Nov. 1, Emersyn was born after an emergency C-section.
“Before I went in for a C-section, I said goodbye to my three children because I was not sure if I would make it,” says Taylor. “I remember begging the staff in the ER to save my baby. We were not sure if she would make it either. Emersyn survived and was transferred to the NICU immediately.”
Since Taylor and the girls had so many health issues, she was not able to see her babies right away and could not hold them until two months later.
“It was so hard for me not being able to see my babies after birth,” says Taylor. “Thankfully, my husband, Mark, and the nurses used Facetime so I could see my daughters and know they were okay. My nurse, Jillian, was with Avery since day one, and she made sure I was as comfortable as possible. I am so grateful to have her as the primary nurse. All of the staff here are absolute angels!” “Emersyn was having horrible breathing issues, and doctors swarmed to her room to save her.” says Taylor. “At that moment, I was overwhelmed with panic and didn’t understand what was going on. Some of the nurses pulled me to another room and calmed me down. They listened to me and explained the situation. I don’t know what I would do without them.”
Avery and Emersyn are beautiful miracles and are finally going home after five months in the hospital. Throughout this traumatic journey, our team stayed resilient and defied all odds to save these girls.
“I cannot thank them enough,” says Taylor. “From the nurses, CNAs, doctors, and the ladies who work up front, everyone has shown me so much kindness and patience. They advocated for me and my babies, and I don’t know if my girls and I would be alive if it weren’t for them.”
